Severen Leroux could have been called the “elder statesman” of the Clan Council, letting his age and experience talk instead of current martial prowess. Like many Nova Cats, Severen Leroux was more spiritual than most members of the Clans and believed that the Clan Invasion was ultimately doomed from the start due to visions. After the defeat at Tukayyid and the next ilKhan election, Severen Leroux retired from service, but was approached to become a member of the Clan Reformation Council, on which he served until his death.

Early Life

Severen was decanted on Dagda in 2978, at a time where stagnation was causing problems within the Clans. He was considered a below average cadet at best and his actions often brought him in conflict with the training leadership. Most of these infractions came in regards to perceived or real injustices that Severen caught and called out, showing a strong moral core since his youth. He would have been washed out during his early teens if not for Khan Abram Radick having a vision that Leroux would one day help the Clans regain their bloodright. During his Trial of Position, he defeated one opponent, claiming the title of Warrior.

Military Career

Early career

Things quickly changed for Severen Nova Cat however as he joined the 32nd Nova Cat Assault Cluster. During his first military action against Clan Fire Mandrill, he scored three kills while in orbit defending a BattleMech drop. During the various conflicts afterwards, he managed to accumulate 30 kills of both enemy fighters and ground units. He also challenged a Jade Falcon Star Commander for the possession of his Scytha OmniFighter, which was a closely guarded secret at the time.

Even with this, the stagnation in Clan space and in Clan Nova Cat prevented much of the advancement for Severen Nova Cat, who had achieved the rank of Star Commander in his third year of service but did not move much until the late 3010s. Having finally been named Star Captain, Severen was allowed to challenge for the Leroux Bloodname in 3020, which he finally won against Star Colonel Marla, a MechWarrior.

Lead up to REVIVAL

Having secured a Bloodname later in his life, Severen Leroux was not considered “top tier” material for the upcoming Clan Invasion. He quickly proved his detractors wrong, however, claiming the rank of Star Colonel in 3023 and reorganizing the air wings of Clan Nova Cats to be better able to match the Inner Sphere data they received from the Wolf’s Dragoons. In 3030, Star Colonel Leroux challenged for the position of saKhan under Abram Radick, which he won against much younger opponents. It would take 5 years before Khan Radick retired from service to a monastery.

During the Outbound Light incident, Severen Leroux did listen to Oathmaster Biccon Winters’s warning but originally supported the Crusader cause, even though they were more inclined to support the Jade Falcons than Clan Smoke Jaguars. Severen’s selection of Kothinur Gritas and the First Nova Cat Guards for the Selection Trials was popular with most of the members of the Clan but proved a poor choice as the Nova Cats won 2 rounds but lost to the Smoke Jaguars which relegated them to sixth position, outside of the consideration. Leroux and saKhan Lucian Carns forced a Trial of Refusal and managed to add themselves to the “reserve Clans” for the invasion.

During the Clan Invasion

The Nova Cats were not involved in the first waves of the Invasion, but Khan Leroux and Nova Cat Keshik served as support and observers as the Clans hit the Inner Sphere head-on. Severen Leroux took a lot of time observing the various Clans actions and noticed that Clan Wolf had the best result and sketched plans to imitate Ulric Kerensky’s actions if they were to be called up for service. With the death of Leo Showers, the Nova Cats began supporting Ulric Kerensky’s position and were called up to serve for the Invasion, all according to Severen’s vision and plans.

Luthien and Tukayyid

Khan Leroux and Lincoln Osis were granted permission to invade Luthien by the ilKhan. Leroux’s plan to perform decapitating strikes against the Combine leadership were rebuffed by saKhan Weaver of the Jaguars, leading to the invasion basically being setup as the “least bad” plan rather than any specific tactical organization. The Nova Cats were mainly engaged against mercenary assets during the Batlte of Luthien and even though Leroux led the aerospace combat himself, the Nova Cats suffered close to 60% losses on their premier combat units.

Leroux led his forces from the front again during the Battle of Tukayyid as well. ComStar and Anastasius Focht did plan for this, however, and deployed significantly more aerospace assets to face the Nova Cats than most other Clans. While the Nova Cats fought fiercely, dealing more damage than any other Clans to the united ComStar forces, Severen Leroux was forced to call for a retreat without having accomplished any of their objectives.

Electoral Meddling

Khan Leroux had no intention of becoming ilKhan after the defeat at Tukayyid, expecting things to degenerate quickly into internal wars between the Clans. During the return trip to the Clan Homeworlds, Leroux met with the Khan of all the other Invading Clans to assess their personality and their ideologies. He found all of them to be lacking in what he thought would be required for the Clans in the future, but he agreed with former ilKhan Ulric Kerensky on many points. The two agreed that Clan Coyote and Sullivan Koga was probably the best choice for a leader of the Clan which kept with the Warden ideals.

During the election proper, Severen Leroux denounced both the Smoke Jaguars leadership and Jade Falcon leadership claim, mimicking a lot of the Homeworlds Clan positions. Severen also brought up the mistreatment of civilians by most of the Invading Clans, including Clan Wolf, to the surprise of Phelan Ward and Natasha Kerensky. Leroux’s support for Clan Coyote became clearer during the debate, which was mimicked by the Wolves, Diamond Sharks and Goliath Scorpions at first. When Khan Sullivan Koga agreed to abdicate his claim during the second round, Leroux was surprised but understood the strong claim which Snow Raven were making.

On the Reformation Council

Severen Leroux retired from service after the election of Lynn McKenna, tired both physically and spiritually. Staying in a monastery on Dagda, he began writing an account of the Clan Invasion using all sources he had access to.

He was then approached by the ilKhan in 3054 to join the Clan Reformation Council which she had formed, saying his experience and wisdom would serve them well. Leroux originally refused, but he then had a vision in his sleep that his refusal could lead to further disasters and decided to take a position on the Council. There, he bickered and fought against many of the other members who refused his desire for drastic changes in the Clan philosophy which he attributed to his visions and examination of the Inner Sphere.

Severen Leroux was critical in the revision of the Clan view of the Inner Sphere, the older warrior spending a lot of resources and time on the subject. Historical documents from the First, Second and Third Succession Wars were acquired by Severen through Watch operations in the Inner Sphere, often fighting with ROM agents to uncover “the truth”. Leroux’s uncovering of ComStar’s involvement in the Tirpitz Affair gave rise to a theory that some Cameron survivors might be hiding in the Periphery at the other end of space.

Severen Leroux died in his sleep on March 9th 3061.

Personal Life

Khan Leroux was a deeply spiritual man but knew how to balance reality with the visions which guided him. He was often at odds with both the more pragmatic and more spiritual members of his Clan as he strode the line between both groups, just as he kept the line between Crusader and Warden within his Clan.

Severen Leroux’s Aerospace fighter

Severen Leroux claimed a Jade Falcon Scytha OmniFighter early in his career, which he used until his death.
