Peter Steiner-Davion is the third scion of House Davion-Steiner, a military commander and politician within the Federated Commonwealth. Despite his young age, he has risen in the ranks of the AFFC and has positioned himself as the next potential ruler of the joint Federated Commonwealth. Many compare him to his father, Hanse Davion, due to his military acumen and “larger picture” way of thinking.
Early Life
Peter Steiner-Davion grew up in the shadow of his two older siblings, as the spare to the spare. Even with the way their parent wanted to managed the Federated Commonwealth by splitting the time spent on each capital, Peter was just a third wheel in the whole affair. This did allow him to focus his attention on things he enjoyed more, including combat sports and military discipline, from a young age. By his own admission and request, after his primary education, he joined the Avalon Drill School, a military school for generally troubled children. There he learned leadership of “difficult individuals” while also rising to the rank of cadet sergeant major.
Following this, he attended the Nagelring for his officer training, still taking the full course load rather than skipping the first year due to his prior cadet training. He didn’t seem himself as a critical element in the Steiner-Davion family and preferred to take his time to properly be trained and prepared for command. His results at the Nagelring were excellent, matching that of his brother Victor a few years prior. He graduated technically with a Lieutenant commission, but as a member of the ruling family, was granted the post of Major in the Lyons Skye March Militia.
Military and Political Career
Embroiled in The Troubles
The political and military revolt, fomented by Ryan Steiner, in the Skye region was the first real taste of action for young Peter Steiner-Davion. As upheaval started throughout the entire region, Peter was on a diplomatic tour to Glengarry when the various rebel groups united and declared their independence. Peter was meant to be kidnapped as a hostage, but he escaped the ambush with his JagerMech, destroying an attacking Defiance and its escort before limping out to safety.
There, he joined Alexander Carlyle’s guerilla movement against the separatists on the planet. The two men became close friends and kept fighting until they were rescued by the main force of the Gray Death Legion. Peter then took charge of all local units loyal to the AFFC, ousting Richard Steiner (Nondi Steiner’s son) from command of the Skye March Militia. With the help of the Legion, they eliminated the military opposition to the Federated Commonwealth rule of the region and sent the local rebellious nobles into hiding.
Chasing the Rebels
Victor Steiner-Davion made the decision to permanently appoint his brother as commander of the Skye March Militia, but former First Prince Hanse Davion also brought up that they needed to try to nip the rebellious elements associated with Nondi Steiner in the bud. Peter moved to Tharkad where he met with MIIO and the Military Intelligence Division to begin a program of vetting planetary lords and ladies and verifying their loyalty. While the program originally focused exclusively on the Skye region and other “problematic worlds”, it quickly expanded to verifying antecedents of all noble houses in the unified realm. While some saw this as a violation of their rights, this allowed the Federated Commonwealth to have a better idea of who they had running various regions of space and what was needed to improve security of the realm.
Peter would likely have continued in this operation and risen in the ranks as part of the intelligence community if not for the events of Operation GUERRERO and the Fifth Succession War. He did, however, create a list of potential disloyal nobles which could join Nondi Steiner’s “alliance”, many of which actually did. He also noted a number of regional lords in the Federated Suns (especially in the Draconis March) who were more loyal to the Sandoval family than the Davion family, and increased surveillance on them.
A Fifth Succession War
The outbreak of the Fifth Succession War and Operation GUERRERO forced Peter back to the Skye region, where he officially took command of the March Militia. While Field Marshal Stephen Davion was fighting to keep the Sarna / Tikonov March together, Peter had to contend with the Free Worlds League Military trying to encroach on Skye’s territory. Thankfully for him, the Skye population hated the Free Worlds League more than they hated the Federated Commonwealth, which allowed for safer operations on the various worlds than those affected by Zhanzheng De Guang.
Peter was supposed to take the role of field commander for the men and women in the Skye March, but he often took “unnecessary risks” according to his father by leading his troops from the front. His headquarters were originally set up in the Fox-class corvette FCS Jasmine Davion, which he used to go to front-line worlds and organize the defense himself. When it became available in 3063, he moved his command post to the FCS Arthur Luvon, a Mjolnir-class battlecruiser. He also kept a close correspondence with his father and “uncle” Stephen Davion throughout the events, using their command experience and leadership to improve his own.
Personal Life
Peter Steiner-Davion spends more of his free time practicing various combat sports, ranging from savate, fencing, medieval combat recreation and Non-Lethal Firearms Combat. He also hosts a weekly “ComCast” with various personalities based on where he is at the time, discussing politics, esoterism, military affairs and popular culture. Revenue generated from that ComCast is sent to military veteran families throughout the entire Inner Sphere, not just the Federated Commonwealth, by associates in ComStar.
He married Sydney McCall-Campbell, daughter of Gray Death Legion officer David McCall, in 3059. The two had met during their time on Glengarry and had been in a relationship since. The marriage was approved by both Melissa Steiner and Hanse Davion, and Peter now has 2 children, Hanse Junior and Lori.
Peter Steiner-Davion’s BattleMech
Peter Steiner-Davion originally piloted a JagerMech, which was destroyed during the Skye rebellion. While assisting the Gray Death Legion, Peter piloted a Bandersnatch. As Field-Marshal of the Skye March, Peter then took, and upgraded, his father’s old BattleMaster, “Dana”.
Clan Watch Report
“Peter Steiner-Davion is likely the most dangerous member of the Federated Commonwealth’s royal family. With his brother Victor having discredited himself from the position of Archon-Prince by marrying Omi Kurita and Katherine having been removed from the running due to her earlier actions, Peter is also the heir apparent to the entire realm once his mother passes away or decides to retire. Unlike his idealistic older brother, Peter is quite down to Earth and has the mix of political acumen and tactical genius of his father. One advantage for us, however, is that Peter is not as focused on the ‘Clan threat’ as Victor is, his eyes being turned far more to the state of the Federated Commonwealth and their neigbors.”
