Owen Watson is the current commander of The Dioscuri, a mercenary unit in service of the Lyran Commonwealth. Originally called Owen Nels, he changed his last name to Watson after marrying into the noble Watson family of the Lyran Commonwealth. Owen is under no misconception that he is one of the worst commanders in the history of the Dioscuri but is waiting for his sister Jasmyn to be experienced enough to take over the unit to retire.
Early Life
Owen Watson (born Nels) is the second son of Brenda Nels, who commanded the Dioscuri after the Jihad. People fully expected his older brother Wilson to inherit command of the unit, so Owen spent most of his youth happy being “second fiddle”. His results in military training were mediocre at best, but he was very “well learned”, with a focus in 19th and 20th century English language literature.
Things took a turn when both Owen’s mother and older brother died in a bad drop fighting against Clan Wolf in 3131. People turned to Owen for leadership as the last “adult” member of the Nels family. He saved the deployment and retreated off-world and was then named Colonel of the unit.
Current Career
Unsure about his career, Owen Nels courted Suzannah Watson, a minor noble in the Lyran Commonwealth. His unit served as garrison on her world for a few years, and the two married. Owen Watson wanted to pass on command of the Dioscuri to his younger sister Jasmyn, but her lack of experience and “command prestige” prevented him from doing so.
Owen currently does everything he can to give such experience to his sister, taking garrison and defense contracts throughout the Commonwealth. During the War for the Empire, he led the Dioscuri on multiple worlds as relief force and “peacekeeping”, which improved the standing of the unit by a fair margin.
