Clan Nova Cat, Star League, Free Worlds League

Nova Cat Touman Army Composition

The current Nova Cat touman is quite limited and must deal with getting a large portion of their supplies and equipment from the Free Worlds League. Their pilots are also not the best trained, generally being survivors from the Nova Cat annihilation, abandoned Clan warriors and Inner Sphere recruits. What they do have, however, is a amazing skill at survival and making do with what they have.

While the special pilot skills for the touman might change depending on the unit, veteran Nova Cat pilots often have the Iron Will, Lucky or Multi-Tasker Special Pilot Ability. Elite Nova Cat pilots often havethe Blood Stalker, Combat Intuition or Eagle Eye Special Pilot Ability.

There are 2 types of detachments common to all Nova Cat touman units. Specialized units might have additional detachment types they have access to.

  • Clan Warrior detachments are the elite of Clan Nova Cat and generally the spearhead of their strike forces. Nova Cat forces are usually lighter than average Clan units, with Light and Medium ‘Mechs being Core units. Heavy ‘Mechs are considered Special units, while Assault ‘Mechs are Rare units.
    • Mechs with the Clan techbase are 1 rarity more Common than usual for Clan Warrior detachment, while ‘mechs with an Inner Sphere techbase are 1 rarity rarer.
    • Any OmniMech gets a Free Battle Armor support unit.
  • Marik Garrison detachment are forces raised from local population to defend the Clan Protectorate. They are generally not Clan warriors, except for the commanding officers, but they are arranged in Clan formations rather than Inner Sphere formations. They are generally heavier units than the Nova Cat strike forces. Medium and Heavy ‘mechs are considered Core units. Fast Assaults (jumping or 5/8 speed) and slow Light ‘Mechs (5/8 or slower) are Special units. Slow Assaults and Fast Lights are Rare units.
    • Mechs with a Inner Sphere techbase are 1 rarity more Common than usual for Marik Garrisons, while ‘mechs with a Clan techbase are 1 rarity rarer.
    • Marik Garrison units can replace any of their ‘mech choice with 2 land vehicle support choices.

Battle Armor

The Nova Cat touman relies heavily on Battle Armor for infantry support, to the detriment of conventional infantry. Conventional infantry units are Special support units for any Nova Cat detachments. Clan Warrior Detachments can select Clan techbase battle armor as Core support units, while Inner Sphere techbase battle armors are Special support units. The opposite is true for Marik Garrison forces

Aerospace Fighter

Aerospace Fighters, at least quality ones, are fairly rare for the Nova Cats. Oftentimes, they need to use Inner Sphere designs and older Clan designs they still have in stock. The raw number of designs available to them might make one think otherwise, but many of these designs are only available in small handfuls.

VTOL

With limited access to ASF support, the Nova Cats have been training a large number of warriors to pilot and fight in VTOL. While trueborn and “semi-trueborn” warriors often dislike these assignments, Inner Sphere warriors are happy to pilot them.

Combat vehicles

Battle Tanks

Battle tanks are amazingly popular amongst the Inner Sphere portion of the Nova Cat touman, while the Clan portion of the force much prefers hovertanks for their mobility and ability to support their strike forces.

Hover Tanks

Support Vehicles

Support vehicles are a common sight in Nova Cat units, providing a variety of support role randing from AA guns to medical help.

Artillery

Artillery is very infrequent in the Nova Cat touman, mostly due to the fact their forces specialize in mobile warfare. Defensive units often will have some artillery available to them.

Troop Transport

With a force concentrating heavily on Battle Armors, regular troop transports are rare within the Nova Cat touman. Vehicles which allow for transport of points of battle armor and OmniVehicles are favored on average.
