General Motors is true “old money”, with their patents and industrial might dating all the way to 20th Century Terra. Their biggest source of revenue remains the self-sustaining fusion reactors, from which they derive a payment for every single one built. With their long-standing agreements with other corporations and their ownership of multiple brands, GM remains a wealthy corporation in the Federated Suns.

General Motors is one of the most advanced company in the Inner Sphere, not only due to copying Clan technology and reverse engineering it, but also for evolving their own technology to match. They also have begun production of OmniMechs over the years, maximising them with their own twist on them. While they were affected by the Jihad like most companies, GM had already planned out contingencies for these situations and weathered the war with limited damage.

Recent History

General Motors keeps working hard on producing equipment for the Federated Suns and their allies. They were not affected as bad as other businesses during the Jihad and by the 32nd century most of them had been reactivated and repaired. They purchased Blackwell Heavy Industries and their patents after the company collapsed due to losing all their production lines to the Word of Blake. GM has not seen the need to put any of Blackwell’s machines into production at their own facilities since they already had a production license for the Marauder II.

GM did not worry about the Republic of the Sphere drawdown order and kept developing equipment during most of the Republican era. They focused more on specialized equipment like new Battle Armor models and combat vehicles than BattleMech during that period to try to close a gap in their production. Introduction of the Hollander III and Templar III has been a boon to the company and their Federated sponsors.

Friendship with Bergan

Bergan Industries is the biggest Rasalhague Dominion company, and they made multiple advances towards General Motors over the years. Both companies have shared some design specifications and equipment specifications, Bergan signing a special deal on production of fusion powerplants giving them a preferential rate on the patent charges. This let GM acquire some advanced specifications on fusion engines and heat sinks from the Clan-affiliated company.

The latest deal between the two companies is about the OmniMarauder and Reaver, a 4th generation OmniMech based off the classic Marauder chassis. The two companies have been trading design specifications and material specification on these machines. GM would come out the winner in this deal if the Reaver enters production as they are guaranteed a production license and shared ownership from Bergan Industries.

Manufacturing

El Dorado

The El Dorado factory concentrated mostly on IndustrialMechs through most of its existence, but they were forced into military materiel production during the Jihad. The main production plant for the Warlord, El Dorado expanded their production lines during the Republican era to build other assault ‘Mechs. Advanced repair and refit facilities are also setup on El Dorado, allowing for rapid upgrade of machines when needed.

IndustrialMech

Kathil

The Kathil plant was heavily damaged by Capellan and Word of Blake raids through the 3070s. GM invested heavily on bringing the plant back online by the start of the 32nd century. This was seen as a point of pride for the company wanting to keep their headquarters well equipped.

New Valencia

The New Valencia facilities were damaged during the Jihad, but not heavily enough to stop production altogether. The Blackwell facilities on the planet were destroyed, and GM holds the rights to them and the land on which they are built, but they are not in a hurry to rebuild them.

Vehicle

Salem

The Salem factory is a minor one, producing standard vehicles for most of its existence. In the aftermath of the Jihad, a production annex was added to the facility to start production of Battle Armors, which was a new market General Motors was trying to corner.

Battle Armors

Vehicles

Talcott

The factory on Talcott was damaged during the Jihad and was left only as a refit and repair yard until it was restored to full production. GM also added a Battle Armor production annex to the factory while tightening its defenses.

IndustrialMech

Waunakee

The Waunakee facility of General Motors mainly built civilian equipment and IndustrialMechs throughout its existence. Like many GM factories, it was expanded during the Republican era to give it a bigger production capability, but they have not moved to producing military equipment.

Hidden World of Durant

The world of Durant is a “hidden world”, a factory world that was settled in the aftermath of the fall of the Star League. General Motors and its leadership are the only ones that know where the world is, which is not mapped on any “standard starmaps”. GM’s own fleet of jumpships connects Durant to the rest of the Inner Sphere.

Effective technology level

General Motors is a major provider for the Federated Suns that grew quickly thanks to NAIS and the recovery of the Helm’s Memory Core. Since then, they focused heavily on modernizing their processes and upgrading their production yards. By the Republican era, all of the General Motors factories featured an orbital endo-steel mill, ferro-fibrous and other advanced armors foundry and the capability to build advanced engines, gyros and heat sink systems. Partnering with other Federated Suns companies, they are able to acquire a significant number of Clan-graded parts, but can also manufacture their own advanced Clan internals.

Clan grade technology available to General Motors:

  • XL Engines
  • Double Heat Sinks
  • Streak LRMs (from Atlas III)
  • Clan ER Lasers
  • Agreements with all other FedSuns company for other parts.
