The Death Commandos is a surprisingly recent unit within the CCAF, created at the end of the 30th century. In that short lapse of time, they got a reputation as one of the most elite and ruthless outfit in the Inner Sphere. While technically a military unit, they also act as a sort of secret police for the Sian regime, with the authority to summarily execute soldiers, citizens and even nobles when required. The soldiers in the Death Commandos swear a blood oath to the Chancellor to defend him and destroy all the enemies of the Confederation.
Recent history
The Death Commandos had a wonderful time during the Jihad with multiple fantastic operations. Even as a black ops / dark ops speciality unit, their reputation grew as one of the “good guys” fighting the Word of Blake. This made the Strategios of the CCAF quite angry as they would much rather their forces be feared rather than adulated, but they rolled with it.
Victoria War
During the Victoria War, the Death Commandos served dutifully. They pushed back both the Sixth Oriente Hussars and defeated Kail Allard-Liao. They kept moving and pushed back more Republican forces with the help of the Chancellor. The reputation of the Commandos grew again at that time, but in a way that the high command appreciated more.
Celestial Reward
During Operation CELESTIAL REWARD, the Death Commandos were tasked with collapsing the Federated Suns leadership in the Capellan Marches. Their primary objective was to capture Duchess Amanda Hasek, which they completed in spectacular fashion by destroying the ducal palace after the kidnapping. Another team of Death Commandos successfully assault Tikonov and defeated the Third Federated Suns Lancers.
Capellan – Star League War
The problems started during the first steps of the Capellan – Star League War. Riding on their high point, the Death Commandos planned a series of strikes against key Clan Wolf individuals. While using unorthodox tactics and planning, the Death Commandos targets were all alerted before they were to be attacked and disappeared. Leadership in the Commandos thought there was possibly a leak in their organization and began a purge of some of their numbers, but nothing came of it. Unbeknownst to them, the leaks did not come from inside the Commandos per se, but from bugs and tags planted there by Fidelis members in the past, now serving as Clan Smoke Jaguars.
The Death Commandos were drawn to Liberty (Carver V) by Smoke Jaguar informants, where one of their reinforced Company was ambushed by The White Death, a specialist unit within the new Smoke Jaguar touman. From that point on, the Death Commandos were on the defensive as the Jaguars chased them down and tracked their unit location to prevent them from causing damage to the frontline Wolf units or the leadership of the new Star League.

Tactics
The Death Commandos are black ops specialists. They are always given the best equipment available to the Capellan military to aid them in their work. MechWarriors are often provided with 2 BattleMechs, one cutting edge model and one more reliable, standard model which they can customize if require. This makes OmniMechs rather popular within the Death Commando elite of the elite.
During battle, they will either use some of their own to distract the enemy or a “sacrificial unit” is selected amongst other units where they are operating. While this is going on, a specialized unit will go behind enemy lines and execute their primary objective.
