Out of Ammo, reloading (Sgt. Slaughter)

It’s not really unlimited ammo

One thing that seems to happen in those old 80s cartoon, especially GI Joe, is that people never run out of munitions (unless they REALLY need to for plot reasons). Battletech, on the other hand, has ammo tracking to a somewhat serious level. How do we put those two things together?

Well, it depends on which system you want to use for the RPG portion of your battletech game. I am not a Destiny guy, but I am sure someone can put in the rules for that as well. The important point here is that players will need to spend resources in order to regain ammunition if required, same with the villains they are fighting. This allows you to balance things a little bit in regards to energy weapons against ballistic weapons, and can give the players the extra edge they need for this one battle they really need to win.

Story points are a great ressource, but unlike Edge, it is shared by the whole party. Once you run out of ammunition with one of your weapon, you can spend a Story point from the pool to regain 1 ton worth of ammo for the weapon at the end of the Heat phase. If multiple weapons use the same ammunition, it counts as a “single ton” of rounds. It can be any specialized ammo you were already carrying on this mission.

Replacing ammo types

Players can replace 1 ton of ammunition they are carrying with any other type of specialized one during the Heat Phase by spending 1 story point.

Battletech Age of War

When you run out for one of your weapon, you can spend an Edge point to regain 1 ton of rounds for one of your weapon during the Heat phase. It can be any specialized ammunition you were already carrying on this mission.
