Phelan Kell was with the Kell Hounds as they were being integrated into the SLDF, where his first military action was fighting against renegade elements of the Walking Flame mercenary outfit. As a scout commander, he led his lance into an ambush, but he defeated the enemy company with clever maneuvering and request for artillery support. Like his father, Phelan appears to be “invisible” to most sensors, which puzzles a lot of military commanders.
As the Clan Invasion was happening, Phelan and the Hounds were generally put on the front as members of the SLDF, where he fought almost every one of the invading Clans but growing to dislike Clan Wolf the most. His dogged pursuit of his opponents and his general demeanor won him the nickname “Rabid Hound”, which he embraced as he challenges Mackenzie Wolf to a duel during the Outreach Summit, defeating Mackenzie’s much larger Thunderbolt with his now highly customized Wolfhound.
Phelan’s first major defeat was at the Battle of Luthien, where the Kell Hounds were defeated thoroughly by Victor Steiner-Davion / Jade Falcon, who destroyed Phelan’s Wolfhound from his Turkina. This made him even more mad at the Clans, on which he swore vengeance.
