Ranjit Matta, The Thumpers, Filtvelt Coalition

Ranjit Matta is the current commander-in-chief of the Filtvelt Citizen’s Militia and commanding officer of the Thumpers. An assault ‘mech commander descended from Buck Tripp, Ranjit’s leadership has not been challenged since taking over. Very confident in his ability, he suffers from a lack of experience in anything which is not pirate hunting. Colonel Matta’s leadership of the Citizen’s Militia is popular with the political leadership.

Early life

Ranjit Matta was born on Skepptana as a “mercenary brat”. Most of his early education came “on the job” working with the Thumpers. As a teen, his father enrolled him in the Filtvelt Military Academy. He performed well in the course curriculum, getting a business administration degree on top of his MechWarrior certification by the age of 21.

After his graduation, Ranjit received a Captain billet with The Thumpers. He was already assigned his grandfather’s BattleMech and leadership of a siege-breaker lance. He led multiple strikes against Tortuga Dominions, generally against much lighter units. The greatest success in his early career was the capture of a pirate warlord and their dropship without firing a single shot.

In Service of the Coalition

Ranjit Matta took command of the Thumpers in 3144. The last major operation done by the Thumpers was Operation TRIDENT, and many officers were “out of shape”. Immediately, Ranjit drilled his unit seriously, especially against other Filtvelt Citizen’s Militia units. When the AFFS started the Reconquista, Matta deployed some of the Militia, along with specific units of the Thumpers, to support them. This decision left the Coalition poorly defended, and pirate raids increased. Returning from the Reconquista with salvage and combat experience, Ranjit is planning new operations against the Tortuga Dominions.
