Muthal Ali is an odd case in the Word of Blake, having been raised in the Inner Sphere before coming to the Wolverine Union as part of a group of Blakist remnants in 3094. A guerilla fighter and “wunderkind” MechWarrior, he commanded respect with his size and experience even at a young age. A rational individual, his devotion to the Word of Blake is however unquestionable.
Early time in the Union
Landing on Forward in 3094 with other remnants, Muthal Ali ran to the nearest recruitment center immediately. He quickly rose through the ranks within the Blessed Order due to his political acumen and his analytical mind. Primus Miranda Sticks took a liking to the young man and took him as her personal assistant and secretary. There, he learned more about the inner workings of the Word of Blake and its relationship with the other Union powers.
Unlike many members of the Blessed Order, he did get closer to some of the Exiled Clan leaderships, mainly the Wolverines and the Burrocks. Being the least “Clan-like” of the Clans made it easy for Muthal to rationalize his contacts with them. The three Precentors in charge of the Word’s worlds disliked Muthal Ali for different reasons, but all of them realized he was an asset. Through political machinations, Demi-Precentor Ali won them over as Miranda Sticks was forced to retire due to implant rejection issues in 3128.
Primus of ComStar
Muthal Ali made no major changes to the Order as he took control. He provided the three Precentors and the Precentor Martial with what they needed, while he was working on studying the holy texts for ways to justify some of his actions. He kept up the appearances of the Word of Blake being “reluctantly” part of the Wolverine Union. However, behind the scenes, he increased the reliance of the Blessed Order on the Rim Worlds Republic to further integrate them into the Union.
Muthal’s greatest achievement, however, was accidental. The gave scientists the go-ahead to try and use the genetic legacy of some of the previous Primus and leaders of ComStar. On the 7th of August 3132, unit CTL 117-D was “born”, using the genetic legacies of Jerome Blake and Myndo Waterly. This would have been a blip on the radar if not for the date on which it occurred. Capitalizing on the opportunity, Muthal began a propaganda campaign promoting Catalyna Romenskaya (renamed after the fact) as a prophesized child.
Investing a lot of his resources and political capital, Muthal put Catalyna at the forefront of the Blessed Order. Striking deals with Carolyne Amaris, he made sure that the Republic would also support Catalyna. While the young woman was growing (faster than usual as a Generation 2 vatgrown), Muthal kept stoking the flames of prophesy and ideology within the Order. As Catalyna officially “came of age” in 3152, Muthal stepped back to a support role and handed her the position of Primus.
