Malax Morrison, Rim Territories, Pirate

King Malax Morrison is the ruler of the Rim Territories after a coup d’etat in 3126. A rigid man, he rules with attention to detail and a focus on improving the industrial base of his realm. He is technically the commander of the Morrison’s Extractors, but his sister Haldia is more in charge of the day-to-day affairs of the unit. His mullet and handlebar mustache are recognizable by all citizens (and slaves) of the Territories, same with his gravely voice. Unlike many of his predecessors, he is trying to leave the Territories in a better shape than he got it.

Youth and ascendancy

Malax Morrison was born from the second wife of King Hector Morrison. His father having lost the rulership to the Black family, Malax focused his youth on learning how to become an effective JumpShip captain. His recovery and repair of a Vincent corvette guaranteed him a place in the leadership of the Territories. At 20, he met with Helmar Valasek the Third during a boarding action. The two started working together immediately, even though they were on opposing sides at first.

The two conspirators planned a coup d’etat against Jaysen Black after a few months working together. Strangely, against all odds, their plan went without a single shot being fired. The planetary garrison surrendered without question against Valasek’s larger force, while the planetary defense network did not want to challenge the Vincent corvette. King Black gave up his position quickly, simply asking to remain in charge of his own regiment of troops.

Having planned for an extensive campaign, Morrison and Valasek had a surplus of equipment and money. Reselling and redirecting it, they hired more local JumpShip captains to allow the Territories to have a more integrated logistics system not entirely based on pirate captains. Malax then reassigned a group of his personal doctors to help with an invasive illness on Brank, winning the respect of the “smaller populace”.

An easy rule

Surprising for a Pirate King, Malax Morrison has had an uneventful rule. His dedication to the population of the Rim Territories, even though self-centered on “not getting couped myself”, endears him to many. Military affairs are generally managed by his friend Helmar Valasek, who has not shown any desire to remove the King from office. The most pressure he has been seeing is from Roderick Steiner (internal), who began mobilizing forces to pacify the region. Approaches from the Timbuktu Collective (internal), especially after they were reinforced by Vedet Brewer (internal), have given the King hope that diplomatic relations with other nations might be possible.
