Kenyon Marik, Free Worlds League

Kenyon Marik is the closest thing to an “official” descendant of the Marik bloodline and Duke of Graham-Marik. Originally supporting Jessica Halas claim to Captain-Generalcy of the Free Worlds League, his stance changed after the passing of Resolution 39. That resolution effectively made Nikol Marik (internal) a permanent “dictator” like previous Captain-Generals until Thomas Marik. This was a step Kenyon did not approve of. From his position as Minister-General, he has been undermining Resolution 39 and Nikol’s political support within the Free Worlds League.

War against the Empire and Marian Aggression

Kenyon Marik opposed Fontaine Marik’s (internal) decision to have the FWLM retake worlds from the Wolf Empire. He would have preferred the military be used to recapture the wayward Duchy of Andurien. His opposition did allow for a portion of the FWLM to remain on standby on the Andurien/Canopian border. This did serve to prevent a number of potentially costly raids.

When the Marian Hegemony struck against the Free Worlds League, Kenyon supported Fontaine Marik’s decision to retaliate against them. He did vote, however, to keep troops on other borders due to the potential threats from other powers. Kenyon Marik was worried about the Liao troop build up near Terra, which he believed was feint to strike at the League.

The Striking of Resolution 39

The end of the various wars that the League was involved in allowed Kenyon to go back to the task at hand, which was the removal of Resolution 39. He did not really want to remove Nikol Marik from the Captain-Generalcy however. In his opinion, the very existence of Resolution 39 he felt threatened free and fair elections within the Free Worlds League. While Christopher Marik (internal)’s popularity was skyrocketing thanks to Fontaine, Kenyon’s own popularity was growing due to the simple fact he was viewed as a stable man. His wife, Ana Graham-Marik, had given birth to 3 children since their marriage. For a few, “a lord with an heir and a spare” looked awfully good.

Kenyon’s politicking won the day after Nikol’s support for the Fronc Reaches during the War of the Reaches was made public. As the minor periphery power was supported by Andurien and Canopus, many viewed Nikol’s actions as “supporting enemy foreign powers”. With her waning popularity, Kenyon was able to have the Parliament vote to censure Resolution 39. This allowed for elections for Captain-General to occur again even though there were still crisis facing the Free Worlds League.
