Katsunori Taizen is one of the reasons why the Azami Brotherhood had a major falling out with the Draconis Combine during the early 3150s. He is a believer in the supremacy of the Combine and the pre-space flight era Japanese culture. As Prefecture Commander of the Buckminster Prefecture, Tai-Sa Taizen actively prevented Azami religious belief from being spread. Construction of new mosque and Azami schools was stopped. Often children were sometimes taken out of their parent’s control and set in “proper Combine educational system”.
Katsunori Taizen was also seen as a lackluster military commander, in charge of the 21st Benjamin Regulars. His combined arms regiment was poorly motivated, and discipline was always a problem.
Azami Secession
Having been passed up for command on the Federated Suns front, Katsunori Taizen’s forces were set as an “active reserve” as Yori Kurita (internal) planned her strike against Clan Ghost Bear. As things degenerated, troops were moved from one front to another to stop attacks from the Raven Alliance, Rasalhague Dominion and Federated Suns. Unfortunately, the 21st Benjamin Regulars came under attack by Tau Galaxy of the Ghost Bears. Katsunori Taizen requested support from Omar Bin Mohammed’s (internal) 6th Arkab, who ignored him. Angered by this, Taizen ordered a rounding up of various Azami citizens, wanting to execute 10 a day until Bin Mohammed mobilized in his defense.
This act led to an immediate response by the Azami population, but also by the “average” Combine citizenry, and riots erupted throughout Buckminster. Local police and security forces refused to obey orders from Katsunori Taizen as well. This loss of control led Taizen to take more drastic actions against the populace, which left more and more of his units open to attacks by Tau Galaxy, which was also supporting local pro-Azami sentiment.
With pressure mounting, Katsunori Taizen retreated his forces outside of the Buckminster Prefecture as the Azami Brotherhood announced their secession from the Draconis Combine. While he would attempt to retake his lost territory, he would see no success.
After the signing of the armistice with House Davion and the recognition of the Azami territory by the New Star League, Tai-Sa Taizen was invited to Luthien, where Yori Kurita ordered him to commit sepukku.
