Hjalmer Miraborg is the political head of the “spheroid” portion of the Rasalhague Dominion. He is an adept politician when dealing with larger scale questions. Rather conservative in terms of his policies, he is a good hybrid of the Clans military training and Spheroid upbringing. Many regard him as a potential template for future leaders in the Dominion and beyond.
Democracy in Action
After the Battle of Terra, Miraborg met with Dalia Bekker (internal) to decide the fate of the Rasalhague Dominion. Both agreed that the New Star League could do much more good than bad, at least if tempered by the right hand (Ghost Bear hands, mind you). Calling for a plebiscite, the two hopes people would want to join the New Star League and campaigned towards that goal. To everyone surprise, the vote to join the New Star League came out with a overwhelming majority in favor. Some political pundits and known agitators attempted to discredit the vote, saying it was rigged or other fraudulent allegations. In response, Hjalmer Miraborg brought various neutral third parties to recount the votes, mostly Lyran politicians and journalists. While the allegations did not completely stop, the general populace was quite satisfied with both the result and the confirmation of the result.
Peaceful War on Three Fronts
While the Dominion fully expected to be fighting for its survival even after joining the New Star League, the average citizen of the Dominion did not feel it. Hjalmer Miraborg made sure the nation was never on “war footing” and never limited trade or consumptio. All the while, the were still providing resources to the Wolves near Terra, putting pressure on the Hell’s Horses and supporting Azami secessionism in the Combine. With no incursion into Dominion territory, the population grew even more confident in Hjalmer Miraborg and Dalia Bekker’s leadership. This was also seen as one of the positives of joining the Star League.
This is not to say that Hjalmer Miraborg did not have to work extremely hard to keep up these appearances, with recruitment drives generally trying to motivate new recruits based on the good they were doing rather than the honor of battle. Freeborn recruitment did allow to solidify existing garrison units, while more heavily trained warriors were redirected to front line units.
