Gerard Marcus Holtz

Gerard Holtz is the latest commanding officer of the Fusiliers of Oriente. He is also one of the youngest Colonel to ever lead the unit. A military man through and through, “Big Jerry” is a mountain of a man. Some doubt his parentage from the Holtz family and insinuate that his mother had an indiscretion with an Elemental instead. This never stopped Gerard Holtz from pursuing his dream of a military career. He climbed the ranks of the Fusiliers due to his sheer physical abilities and attention to details.

As the Fusiliers were being reformed from the Oriente Ducal Guard, General Kirkland named Gerard Holtz as the new commander of the 1^st Fusiliers of Oriente. Newly equipped and trained, the 1^st Fusiliers were battle tested against raids from the Duchy of Andurien and Capellan Confederation in 3149 and 3150.

Fighting the Wolves

After the Battle of Terra, the Wolf Empire was left severely under defended. Gerald Holtz was one of the FWLM supporting Fontaine Mariks’s (internal) motion to attack the Empire to reclaim lost worlds. The First Fusiliers were eager to prove themselves against the Wolves, while the Ducal Guard remained garrisoned on Oriente.

Leading probing strikes against the Empire, Gerald Holtz proved that they were not ready for a full scale assault, but the orders from the Captain-General were contradictory to what Fontaine Marik was saying. Limiting their strikes, the First Fusiliers still landed on Laureles in 3152. There, they faced the Wolf’s Epsilon Galaxy, which was not ready to face an elite, fully modern regiment. Trapping Niels Carns (internal)’s Iron Keshik, the 1^st Fusiliers destroyed the Wolf’s command unit. The remainder of the Galaxy retreated off-world, with the Fusiliers reclaiming the world for House Marik.

Andurien Problem

After the Wolves reinforced and reorganized their worlds enough to be defended, Gerald Holtz was brought back the Duchy of Oriente. Stationed on Milnerton, the Colonel kept drilling his forces for combat against the Clans, using “aggressor” forces raised from local mercenary units. While House Liao was gathering their forces for the upcoming Capellan – Star League War, the 1^st Fusiliers did perform a few probing raids along the Liao border.

The actual issue came from the Duchy of Andurien, who laid a “specious claim” to Milnerton. The 6^th Andurien Guards commander, Virgilio Jordan (internal), repeatedly landed forces on the planet, but never attacked the 1^st Fusiliers positions. In retaliation, Gerald Holtz landed his own battalion on El Giza. This game of cat and mouse continued until the Duchy of Andurien having to concentrated their force against their former ally, the Magistracy of Canopus.
