Druth Ghost Bear is a trueborn whose sibko were decanted on 3 September 3132. He comes from the Bekker line and is fiercely proud of his pedigree and clan. As a cadet, he performed quite well, every now and then even completely outshining his brothers and sisters.

Trial of Position

Coming from such a prestigious genetic line, Druth was allowed a Trial of Position for Beta Galaxy. But when the time for that Trial came, something went terribly wrong. For unknown reasons, the Shadow Cat he was using experienced a sudden and complete shutdown before he could even take a single shot, and he was utterly defeated. It was enough to earn him a complete failure. As a result, he was relegated to the labor caste and sent to a Bergan Industries factory protected by one of Phi Galaxy‘s PGCs.

Not one to let an unfortunate incident defeat him, Druth worked hard to make the best of a bad situation. He had extreme difficulty doing so, because it severely wounded his pride to have failed the Trial of Position. He believed there was no way at all that things should have gone the way they did, and concluded it was not just a fluke. Someone must have made things go wrong on purpose. Unfortunately, he could not prove anything.

Battle of Beragn

However, one day the base at which he worked on mech repairs was unexpectedly the target of a raid. The solahma with the role of Star Commander of the Core assigned to the base was downed in the attack, his Archer falling through the walls of the factory. Concerned with his fellow Ghost Bear’s life, Druth pulled the man from the cockpit, but he was already dead. Seeing the Star Commander’s rank insignia on the deceased pilot, Druth knew the battle may not go well without the officer there. He saw it as a chance to redeem himself and seized the moment. Druth had been working repairs on a Grizzly 2 when the attack began. Its armor needed work, but it was otherwise fully operational. He took the deceased Star Commander’s neurohelmet and vest, powered it up, and joined the fight.

With his help, the Phi Galaxy forces were able to push back the invaders, whom they would later discover were part of a terrorist cell from the Word of Blake that had stolen their mechs used in the attack from a band of pirates. During the battle Druth achieved two kills, the amount needed to reach Star Commander in a Trial of Position. The Core Commander present asked for this newcomer’s name and, when Druth gave it, reported the event to his captain and major. All three requested information on Druth from administrators. Many found his record of complete failure on his Trial strange, but Phi had seen his success personally and decided he would be better in their ranks. They bid for him and won.

Current affairs

Druth was brought into the Phi forces fighting against the Capellan Confederation, where he now pilots a Grizzly 3. One day, he hopes to be at the controls of something bigger and better. Unfortunately, the stain of his botched Trial of Position still follows him. To this day, Druth remains convinced he was set up.

Personality and gimmicks

Druth is professional and reticent when dealing with superiors and in situations in which negotiations are called for. By contrast, he is otherwise quite friendly in general. Being a strong believer in the Ghost Bear doctrine of family and mutual support for one another, Druth is fast to latch onto any atmosphere or opportunity to exercise those convictions. Upon reinstatement in the Warrior Caste, Druth also began to pursue his own Great Work, the work of art every Ghost Bear warrior is encouraged to pour his or her heart and soul into. As the Bekker line favors the use of music, Druth took up guitars of both the acoustic and electric forms. His biggest weakness is that he often gets tunnel vision and hyperfixates on something, resulting in Druth not noticing or completely ignoring other, potentially more important things. He enjoys tobacco, and cannot resist a good cigar.
