The Quikscell Company is not known for things like “quality control” and “making sure the customer is satisfied”. What they are known for is “building things in massive quantities” and “it’s good enough”. Quikscell Speciality Manufacturing is a branch of the company that actually tries to build equipment “up to par” with what you would expect from more reputable names, like StarCorps. Your mileage may vary, but the result is surprising.
History
Early options
But what if they decided to try to do a bit better? What if they wanted to make BATTLEMECHS? Well, in 3101, CEO Martin Ramcharam decided to do just that. Starting with a “small sample”, they built a factory on Skepptana in the Filtvelt Coalition and Anembo in the Lyran Commonwealth. Local powers had absolutely no trust in whatever would come out of the factories. Nonetheless, resource starved mercenaries, “alternate military forces” (pirates, just say pirates) and planetary militias were happy to oblige them. Within a few years, those factories were working at full efficiency.
Sales were up. The investors in Quikscell were happy. Martin Ramcharam got a massive bonus and a golden parachute in 3112. That is when the problems started. Quality on those “Speciality Manufacturing” products was good. Like, good enough that people actually did not only place orders to patch holes in formations. Customers started asking for things like “customer support” and “first party spare parts”. Quikscell Speciality Manufacturing now had to hire engineers, technicians and marketing people. They had to provide after-sale product support.
A new business model
The new CEO, Therry Perreault, spun Quikscell Specialty Manufacturing into its own company in 3115. This allowed him to perform standard “Quikscell accounting” on the main business, while this side business started looking more legitimate. With 2 ‘mechs in production and a production line for a basic spotter VTOL, Quikscell started putting money down to upgrade their equipment. A new facility opened first on Coventry in 3123, and then on Sauk City in 3132. Finally, approval for the construction of a facility on Andurien was given in 3142, with the production lines pushing out machines as of 3149.
While Quikscell’s reputation precedes them, Quikscell Speciality Manufacturing does offer some form of support to their customers. Their equipment might not be the most advanced or revolutionary, but it is meant to be reliable. This is mostly because QSM doesn’t intend on providing customer support if not forced to.
While front line units were not their primary customers, the First Robinson Strikers and Leftenant-General Wilhelmina Groell changed this. The factory at Sauk City is the most taxed of all Quikscell locations now, producing ever growing amounts of simple machines to reinforce the AFFS’s “secondary regiments”.
