III Legio

III Legion (Third Legion) is a mobile combat unit specialized in fast assault and raids. During the lead up to the conquest of Terra by Clan Wolf, they invaded several worlds from the Free Worlds League in the Duchy of Tamarind. This made them public enemy number one for Fontaine Marik at the time. Their leadership was unfortunately found wanting and their operational readiness was not good enough to face a full-scale war. Faced with an opponent with better technology, motivation and training, the III Legio was forced back to the Marian Expanse in shame.

Recent history

III Legio was garrisoned on captured Duchy of Tamarind worlds until the murder of Adrijana Vouk. While they had been a torn on the side of the Tamarind Regular, they had been considered too insignificant to deploy large scale forces until then. III Legio mobilized with the rest of the Caesar’s Legions to strike at FWL assets in 3152. Mohamed Kilgore leads an assault against Hamric Industries on Huntingdon, but is pushed back by the mercenary and corporate security assets.

After restocking and re-equipping, the Third Legion lands on Bowang to capture a new world for the Hegemony. Opposing them is now Fontaine Marik and the Marik Militia, who has no interest in allowing their enemy from fleeing. The destructive battle lasts close to 2 months, causing massive damage to local infrastructure.

The failure of the III Legio, and its poor leadership, led Ignatius Caesar and Miller Imperator to recall them to core regions of the Expanse. Under the command of their new Prefect, Marius O’Toole, the legion is rearming and training to meet the basic standards expected by the Imperator.

Tactics

III Legio is specialized in rapid assaults and raids. The lack of discipline in the unit was often seen as a problem but was exacerbated during the fight against the Tamarind Regulars. Prefect Marius O’Toule was given the task to drill the unit into a functional, disciplined unit going forward.

Unit Colors

The III Legio paints their ‘Mech midnight blue, with a golden trim. After their loss to the FWLM, some units started adding red highlights to the paint scheme to signify the blood lost by their battle brothers.
