The Filtvelt Coalition was originally formed by Federated Suns worlds. Having been ignored while they were under assault by the Tortuga Dominions and renegande Taurian commands, 21 worlds on the rim ward, spin ward border seceded. Part of their goal was also to create a “more equal” nation, espousing democratic ideals. While the Coalition shrank over the years, the remaining core worlds are proud of what they are doing and their contribution to peace in their vicinity.

Filtvelt Coalition Culture

The Filtvelt Coalition has shrunk quite a bit from its heydays of 3072, many worlds having rejoined the Federated Suns due to a variety of reasons. The remaining worlds of the Coalition do view themselves as their own thing nowadays. The lack of peerage and the focus on democracy is what differentiate them from the Federated Suns at large. While minor political families have taken control of a few elements, none of them are officially “nobles” and some upsets have left some isolated after an election.

Elections occur every 6 years, with 2 senators per planet along with multiple “members of parliament” depending on local population. There are no term limits, but it is generally understood that the President should not serve more than 2 terms. Local politicians are well regarded in general.

Origin

“Origin” has very little to do with how people are viewed in the Coalition. While most of the population is from Federated Suns stock, there is a significant Hindustani population from the former United Hindi Collective. Migrants from other nations of the Inner Sphere are common as well, especially after the Jihad. Capellan and Lyran citizens are the two other major groups. The Filtvelt Coalition has no understanding whatsoever regarding the Clans. The only thing they know about them comes from Clan Sea Fox traders and holovids.

Transport and trade

One of the major issues in the FIltvelt Coalition is the lack of transportation assets. The Coalition owns 2 Invader and 1 Merchantclass, with The Thumpers owning their own Star lord. Outside of this, only local Travelers and the rare Sea Fox trader visit the Coalition. They however maintain a significant DropShip fleet, both civilian and military. The purchase of new Invaders is the top priority for the nation.

Filtvelt Coalition Military Assets

The Filtvelt Citizen’s Militia is a simple military organization with no centralized command. Each of their regiments are built along the lines of Light Combat Teams favored by the AFFS. Each of the units in the Coalition is well-trained but lacks experience. Pirate hunting, especially coming from the Tortuga Dominions, is their most common operation. They have nothing to fear from the Federated Suns, which have mostly left them alone. During the Davion Reconquista, the First Filtvelt and Third Filtvelt Citizen Militia happily dispatched to support the Davion crown, receiving a large amount of salvage from Combine units they helped defeat.

A mercenary command, The Thumpers, supplement the Citizen Militia. Specialized in heavy and assault ‘mechs, they served heavily in Operation TRIDENT. They tried to dismantle the Tortuga Dominions along with the Taurian Concordat and Brotherhood of Randis. Colonel Ranjit Matta is generally regarded as the commander in chief of the Filtvelt Citizen Militia.

Production

Coalition Armory Inc is the primary supplier of equipment for the Filtvelt Coalition BattleMechs. Their primary product is the HD-2F Hound, a 70 ton heavy ‘Mech which is “simple enough” to be produced with simple equipment. Their most advanced piece of hardware is the HNT-181 Hornet, a special customized model developed for the Coalition. The Coalition was building primitive versions of the Dervish and Toro, but have refurbished their lines to produce Succession War-era level standards.

Cal-Boeing of Dorwinion provides the “air assets” for the Coalition, primarily with building the Ripper VTOL, along with the Warrior H-7B since 3110 under license. Another license they purchased from Lockheed-CBM Corporation is the antique (yet still quite efficient) CNT-1D Centurion aerospace fighter, starting construction of them in 3121.

A small company, FIltvelt Personal Arms Limited, began production of the Inner Sphere Standard Battle Armor in 3101. This allowed the Coalition Militia to equip a lot of their infantry with these basic battlesuits. The export of the suits also is also a source of revenue for the Coalition as a whole.
