Ignatius O’Reilly has had an easy time as a Caesar of the Marian Hegemony, but with the Free Worlds League being reformed, he was forced to take more active role in the leadership of his nation. Things came to a head when wife, Adrijana Vouk, was murdered at one of their summer residences on Alphard. The murder was pinned on a pro-Marik, anti-Marian dissident, secretly working for the Wolverine Union.
War of Marian Retribution
While Adrijana and Ignatius were not the closest, the Caesar still respected his wife enough to make a declaration that those involved would need to be punished. While his original plan was to request a meeting with the Marik leadership and negotiate some sort of agreement or payment, senators took this as a call to war and voted for a full mobilization of the Marian Legions. Caught short by this, Ignatius react ordering the capture of a number of Marik worlds, hoping this would be enough to calm his warmongering Senators and not anger the Free Worlds League too much as they were embroiled in a conflict with the Wolf Empire.
Things took a turn for the worse as the Free Worlds League basically redeployed their entire military to face the Marian advance. Anti-Imperial rhetoric by the Marik Free Press and other outlets also threatened Ignatius position if he did not respond in kind, which he had to do through a series of open letters. The Lothian League was also threatening full secession as things kept evolving.
With the death of Mohamed Kilgore at the hands of Fontaine Marik, who had originally been blamed for the murder of Adrijana Vouk, Ignatius O’Reilly managed to pull the legions back to controlled worlds and began peace-keeping operations in the Lothian League to strengthen his position. A secret agreement between him and Fontaine Marik was signed on an unidentified planet as well, where Ignatius would support him in future political endeavors if required.
