Max Ergen fought in Operation ERUPTIO where he was gravely wounded after fighting Anastasia Kerensky, missing the Battle of Terra against Clan Wolf. Along with the troops from various garrisons in the remnants of the Republic of the Sphere, Paladin Ergen grabbed as much as he could in an attempt to consolidate what he could for the ideals of the Republic. When Alaric Ward (internal) made a call for support after the fall of the Wall, Ergen came forward with his troops, but not to attack Terra or retake it in the name of the Republic, but to serve the New Star League.

Max Ergen service to Clan Wolf started quickly as he was ordered to setup anti-tank position and build fortifications on Yorii, where he was planning on fighting Gottfried Amirault’s (internal) Hell’s Horses. During that period, Max Ergen started reorganizing his forces in similar formations as the Clans would use, giving him 3 Clusters of troops, which were equipped either with 2^nd line Clan technology or with advanced Republican BattleMechs. During the Trial on Yorii, Max Ergen’s forces served mainly as distractions for Alaric’s main force, but also to bog down the Horses’s armor divisions and QuadVees. Ergen made sure to poke and prod at the saKhan of the Hell’s Horses (internal) to keep him away from Alaric’s main force, including frequent raids against supply depots and ‘mech refit yards.

While Ergen’s men suffered a massive loss of materiel during the Battle of Yorii, he impressed the Wolf Khan and Chance Vickers (internal), who recommended to Alaric that they absorb them into the Clan. Alaric refused, stating he would not accept such a number of freeborn into his Clan without a good reason. Chance and Max were dejected at first, before Alaric threw Ergen’s family crest to him claiming he would be a great Thunder Boar, however.

Using what powers are available to him, ilKhan of the ilClan Alaric Ward founded a new clan for the Republic remnants who wanted to serve the new Star League, led by former Paladin Max Ergen, who was the first of the new Bloodhouse. Granted Yorii as their new headquarters. Ergen sent out a general call for service to the various Republican troops. While the number coming to join him was limited, it was enough to have 1 full strength Galaxy and one reserve Galaxy at the start of the fight with the Capellan Confederation.
