Based off Romancing Saga 2.

Base Gameplay

Characters

  • Character classes are based on combat roles and are “unlocked” as the game moves on.
  • Character stats are more divided: Piloting by weight class, Gunnery by weapon type (Wider types or tighter types? I am thinking tighter types with SRM Gunnery being different from MRM gunnery).
  • SPA are learned by a particular class, then once they are mastered can be added to other characters through Inheritance OR shares.
  • Edge counts as LP. Once a character is out of Edge and they die, they are removed from play and you gain them back after the next Inheritance phase.

Event Points and Inheritance

  • Characters have a timeskip every 15 Event Points being generated (just went with the same numbers as RS2).
  • After the timeskip, you choose a new Faction Leader, which inherits the abilities of the previous Faction Leader, but needs to be a different base class.
  • The other retainers of the faction (Classes) also inherit the stats and skills from their predecessors.
  • Event Points also determine the advances in technology, building new ‘mechs, spacefaring resources and such.
  • You gain cash for every event point which progresses to invest in stuff.
  • Time is only calculated in Event Points, not in months, weeks, years as to simplify the gameplay.

Mechs

  • All ‘Mechs are “omnimechs” that you can customize around what the chassis gives you.
  • Hardpoints or free customization? My idea would be hard points for the standard ‘mechs and Omnis allow for full customization.

Combat Vehicles. Infantry, Battle Armors

  • Support units are built “in bulk” like items to be used in combat.
  • The players choose how many support units they bring, but those are always “spent” even if they survive.
  • Support units can also be deployed in controlled territory as protection, securing trade routes, securing resources, ect…

Technology

  • Have a technology tree built for the various techs in Battletech.
  • You need to research the Tech before the parts are available.
  • Once the necessary parts are available, you can develop a new ‘Mech chassis based on the available technology.
  • You need to own the parts to invest them as well.

Building new chassis

  • Works like the Blacksmith.
  • Time investment is required for all of this.
  • You can pay to develop a new chassis based on what is available in which category: Light, Medium, Heavy, Assault, by ‘Mech type (Cavalry, Fire Support). Development is based on techs available.
  • Existing ‘mechs can be upgraded to new models within the same line by spending ressources (MAD-1R to 2R to 5M, ect…) and having the right techs available. Can be a one-time upgrade for a single ‘mech based on Salvage.

Mission Levels

  • Based on your Inheritance Level and combat missions completed.
    • Inheritance Level + (Number of Missions done / 4)
  • All units are calculated on BASE BV value for the player vs Existing value for the Board.
  • Every Mission Level increases the BV allowed by the board by 10% for levels 0 to 10. At Mission Level 11-20, the BV allowed is increased by 15% per level above 10. At Mission Level 21 to 30 (max), the BV allowed is increased by 20% per level above 20.
  • For missions, use Hot Spots like in Hot Spots Draconis Reach and such, but have a clear narrative purpose for them.
  • You don’t just “fight to conquer” the other nations and such, you do those missions and win their allegiance in various ways.

The players select one of these as their starting faction and have to conquer / pacify / ally themselves with the 14 other factions to “reform the Star League”. We can select ‘mech chassis you unlock per faction, same with classes, ect…

The Cursed Ones

The Seven Great Evils which threaten human controlled space, either having infiltrated them from within or coming from beyond. Those are your “Seven Heroes” which you need to defeat to secure the Star League.

  • Scorpion Empire
  • JarnFolk / The Clave
  • Manei Domini
  • Snake Alliance / The Homeworld
  • Warrior Houses
  • The Broken
  • Black Dragon Society

Forbidden One

The equivalent to the Thermites. Those things are inhuman monsters from outside the Inner Sphere who exist solely to destroy humanity. This is where things get VERY different from regular Battletech as this is a foreign force altogether.
