KungsArme Army Composition

Free Rasalhague Republic, Official

The KungsArme forces are clearly divided by weight class and regiments. While a selection of ‘Mechs from different weight classes will always be included for specialist elements, these forces are meant to be deployed and used based on their basic roles.

KungsArme Kavalleri

The lightest formations in the KungsArme are the Kavalleri, which generally serve as scouts and screen for the larger units. 4 Kavalleri units were available before the Clan Invasion, but only the Second and Fourth survived the conflict. During the reconstruction of the KungsArme, the Kavalleri were not prioritized, but a lot of surplus equipment reached their command and allowed for the return of the 1st Kavalleri.

Light ‘mechs are the Core choice for any Kavalleri unit. Fast Medium ‘Mechs (6/9 or faster) are Core choices in a 1 per Lance formation. Otherwise, Medium ‘Mechs are a Special choice for Kavalleri units. Finally, Heavy and Assault ‘Mechs are Rare choices.

KungsArme Hussars

The Hussars are used as a fast striker unit built around fast Light and Medium ‘Mechs. While they maintain a small contingent of heavy and assault vehicles for defensive roles, their main battle force is meant to be highly mobile, supported by VTOL and hovercrafts. The Hussars were heavily hurt during the Clan Invasion, with the First and Second Hussard being destroyed by Clan warriors. Both units were reformed under Christian Mansdottir’s leadership after the Battle of Tukayyid, but they were not fully ready for Operation AEGIR.

Light and Medium ‘Mechs form the Core choices of any Hussar units. Fast Heavy ‘Mechs (5/8 or faster) are considered a Core choice in a 1 per Company formation. Fast Heavy or Assault ‘Mechs are considered Special Choices. Any slower Heavy and Assault ‘Mechs are considered Rare Choices. The Hussars can take Jump Infantry as Core support choice.

KungsArme Freemen

The Freemen were built around the most standard formation types of the Succession Wars, a solid core of Medium ‘Mechs to perform all necessary tasks that would be required of them. Unfortunately, as the Clan Invasion began, they were faced with the better armed Heavy ‘Mech formations of the Clans, which generally were also able to match the mobility and polyvalence of the Freemen. By the end of the Invasion, the First and Third Freemen regiment had been destroyed, leaving only the Second to carry the water. Investment from ComStar and the Wolf’s Dragoons allowed the Freemen to reform both units by the start of Operation AEGIR, but not at full effectiveness.

Medium ‘Mechs are the Core choices for Freemen units, with 35 ton ‘Mechs being added to this. Any lighter ‘Mechs and Assault ‘Mechs are considered Rare choices, while Heavy ‘Mechs are Special choices.

KungsArme Drakons

The Drakons were the heavy formation of the KungsArme, often seen as the backbone of their military. The Drakons were some of the best equipped and trained units in the KungsArme and generally defended regional capitals of the Republic prior to the Clan Invasion. Two of their regiments, the Third and the Fourth, survived the Clan Invasion and were rebuilt to full operational status by the start of Operation AEGIR, with the First being in process of mustering and rebuilding.

Heavy ‘Mechs are considered Core choices for a Drakons units. Small assault ‘Mechs and large Medium ‘Mechs (50-55 tons and 80-85 tons) are considered Special Choices for these units. Any other ‘Mech fall in the Rare category.

The Eagles of Tyr

The Gunzburg Eagles were the Assault ‘Mech Regiment of the KungsArme, but it was destroyed during the Clan Invasion. The Eagles originally were the rebel / patriot unit known as the First Tyr, originally under Christian Mansdottir himself. As a political move, Haakon Magnusson agreed to reform the unit under the monicker “Eagles of Tyr” in 3055, with resources being allocated to it from the surplus being purchased by the Republic and from new machines being produced by Grummium. It was ready for service at the start of Operation AEGIR, featuring a new command structure and untested leadership.

The Eagles are built around Core choices made of Assault ‘Mechs. Heavy ‘Mechs are used as support elements to the Eagles, preferring long range units, but all Heavy ‘Mechs are considered Special Choices. Any ‘Mech lighter than 60 tons is considered a Rare choice for the Eagles of Tyr,

BattleMech Forces

The KungsArme’s BattleMech force is composed of a lot of surplus equipment from the Lyran Commonwealth and Draconis Combine. Since the Battle of Tukayyid, they also have been receiving surplus equipment from Com Guards, including “Tukayyid-Special” models of many Star League ‘Mechs. As the KungsArme got closer with the Wolf’s Dragoons, they also started buying equipment from various outfitters linked to Outreach, especially Blackwell’s.

The KungsArme relies on a few different internal manufacturers to provide them with equipment. Grumium Creations on Grumium builds multiple assault ‘Mechs, namely the Cyclops, Viking and Crockett. A new factory was built on Oreste as well to build the Gunslinger,

Odin Manufacturing on Orestes opened new production lines for military equipment in 3058, mainly to accommodate the production of the Beowulf for the Com Guards, selling extra units to the KungsArme. Additional production lines were added, licensing the Locust to serve a primary scout ‘mech and the Ostscout as a more advanced model.

Gorton, Kingsley and Thorpe had production lines on New Oslo which fell to Clan Wolf, whose main production was the Phoenix Hawk. Investment was ongoing to build a new factory to produce Archers and Panthers, and this was relocated to Karbala, opening its doors in 3056. Production of the Panther, Hatchetman, Phoenix Hawk, Quickdraw and Archer began in earnest there with agreements signed with various corporations, creeping to full production in 3062.Ceres has refused to give the Republic a license to produce the Vindicator, but the KungsArme has been purchasing any Vindicator on the open market and from partners.

Clan Materiel

The KungsArme being at the forefront of the fight with the Clans, they have captured and acquired a decent portion of equipment from their enemy which they have used to replenish some of their forces. While the more complex and advanced Clan pieces of equipment are often traded to the Draconis Combine or to the Federated Commonwealth, a portion remains in the hands of the KungsArme.

Every Company-sized formations can take 1 Clan ‘Mech as a Rare choice from the following list. Battalion-sized formations can take an entire Lance of Clan ‘mechs, considering each of them to be a Rare choice. While OmniMechs can be selected, they cannot change their loadouts as the equipment is too rare still to just allow for quick swapping of equipment.

Infantry and Battle Armors

Conventional infantry remains the bulk of the KungsArme’s forces, as it did before the Clan Invasion. Having been forced to fight against highly skilled DEST forces in the past and now against superior Clan Elementals, the KungsArme has refined its infantry doctrine to make it more capable.

Both conventional and mechanized infantry are considered Core support choices for any KungsArme force. Every mechanized infantry company can become a Reinforced Infantry Company by adding a combat vehicle. Conventional infantry can become a Reinforced Company by adding a field gun.

Jump infantry and motorized infantry count as Special support choices for the KungsArme. Either unit types can become Reinforced Company by adding a Hovertank or Field gun.

Battle Armors were not available to the KungsArme until Operation AEGIR, at least not to scale. Inner Sphere Standard, Raiden and Gray Death Standard Battle Armors count as a Rare support choice for the KungsArme. As with conventional infantry units, one out of every 4 Battle Armor squad can be replaced with a combat vehicle.

Aerospace Fighters

Aerospace Fighter training in the Republic became immensely popular after Tyra Miraborg’s sacrifice which halted the Clan Invasion. The biggest problem for the Free Rasalhague Republic was that they did not have any locally produced fighters outside planetary defense conventional fighters, which the new recruits often trained on but limited their space combat experience.

Thankfully, both the Federated Commonwealth and Draconis Combine recognized that the Republic needed a strong space force, even though they could not afford to provide them with WarShips until the 3066 delivery of the Rasalhague Fury, a Davion-class missile cruiser promised to them by Victor Steiner-Davion. The KungsArme’s air force reinforced most regiments following the same format as the Wolf’s Dragoons Combat Groups, with 2 air wings assigned per “regiments” as they were also converted to Combat Groups. Most JumpShip deployment by the KungsArme were supported by a Vengeance-class dropship, which began production on Tukayyid at a new Kallon Industries plant in 3062.
