Jorgen Nerekov is the first commander of the “reborn” Prefectorate Guards, after they were disbanded by Romano Liao due to incompetence. Sun Tzu Liao restored the unit to service after his ascension to the Celestial Throne and Nerekov was named Colonel (then Sang-Shao) of the unit. An unconventional man, Nerekov is known for his military acumen but also for his military engineering skill, which he used to upgrade various ‘Mechs in service of the Confederation and later design the Jinggau for Shengli Arms.

Early Life

Jorgen Nerekov was born on Tikonov in 3011 and excelled both in physical activity and mathematics during his early education. He was sent to Sarna on a grant to study mechanical engineering and start his military education. As the planet was attacked by the Federated Suns, Jorgen joined partisan groups in opposing the occupation, finally receiving a ‘Mech he captured from the Crater Cobras. As the fight on the planet turned hopeless, Jorgen evacuated with the McCarrons. He finished his education and military training on Sian, before joining the Prefectorate Guards

Military Career

Unfortunately for him, the Guards were about to have a series of crippling defeats. A group of mercenaries raided the world of Hexare in 3031 and the Prefectorate Guards were tasked with hunting them down. Colonel Braxton Gammon was an extremely conventional officer and fought the mercenaries according to the “rules of war” and was beaten almost at every turn. One of the only units with a successful record was Nerekov’s company, which managed to get him a promotion to Major.

In 3032, the Guards faced off against an invasion from the Duchy of Andurien on Betelgeuse. Again, Colonel Braxton’s inflexible command style cost the Guards dearly, with the only unit being remotely successful being Nerekov’s. Romano Liao officially disbanded the Prefectorate Guards in 3033, spreading the remaining troops to other regiments, including Nerekov’s Battalion which was sent to Victoria to assist with the defense of Shengli Arms. This led to Jorgen’s lifelong contact with Shengli and their R&D team.

After Romano Liao’s death, Sun Tzu Liao started reactivating various commands within the Confederation to improve their operational readiness. The Prefectorate Guards were selected to be reactivated, with Jorgen’s battalion being the first unit being recalled. In 5 years, the unit recruited new personnel and were operational, but lacked the experience required to take part in Operation GUERRERO. In response to this, the new Sang-Shao approached Sun Tzu Liao to perform Operation GUAN XING against the Capellan March of the Federated Commonwealth.

While GUAN XING could be seen as a failure, Sang-Shao Nerekov was generally rewarded for his actions in the conflict. The fight in the region alleviated pressure on the Capellan forces in the Sarna region, allowing the Confederation to keep worlds they had retaken from the Federated Suns. While the St. Ives Compact made advances and took multiple worlds, the Federated Commonwealth lost more worlds in the Capellan March due to the political climate favoring the St. Ives Free State than were lost by the Capellans. Technological exchange in the region due to salvaging Federated Commonwealth technology also allowed the CCAF to start more improvement programs for their own regiments, thanks in no small part to Jorgen’s own engineering expertise.

Personal Life

Jorgen Nerekov is married and has 2 children. In his free time, he enjoys playing mahjong and cross-country skiing.

Jorgen Nerekov’s BattleMech

Jorgen Nerekov originally piloted a Victor which had been upgraded to Star League-standard by the time of Operation GUAN XING. This was replaced by the first ever produced Yu Huang.

Clan Watch Report

“A few MechWarriors know what they want in a BattleMech. Fewer know what make a BattleMech work. Fewer still go on to design their own. The Great Father was one such man, and Jorgen Nerekov appears to be the same. His close association with Victoria’s Shengli Arms shows an amazing talent at creating machines that would be useful for the future while also knowing how to command units in an almost no-win scenario. It is interesting to see that even though he is the one who started the fight in the Capellan March and arguably lost many worlds for the Capellan Confederation, his status only grew throughout the conflict.”
