Skobel MechWorks is the legendary manufacturer of the first ever BattleMech, the Mackie. Over the years, their power and wealth has fluctuated, but they remained a trusted name in BattleMech production and component design. Skobel has been “expanding” since the Jihad, with investment in satellite offices around Terra, all of which fell under the purview of Clan Wolf.

Recent History

Skobel does not care where the money flows. During the Jihad, they provided equipment to the Word of Blake. As soon as Terra fell to Devlin Stone’s coalition, they turned around and started selling to the Republic of the Sphere. They were lucky that most of the damage to their Terra and Mars facilities were covered by their insurance and repayment schemes by the Republic, however, as they were damaged and needed refurbishment.

During most of the Republican Era, Skobel was not affected by the Republican drawdown of military equipment. Unlike many companies, they grew their footprint and continued investment in key worlds close to Terra. As the Republic of the Sphere fell, those facilities were shutdown, but as soon as a new revenue stream (in the form of the New Star League) came in, they were reactivated.

Manufacturing

Terra / Mars

The Sol holdings of Skobel are massive and have been in use (on and off) since the Age of War. Production lines for various machines have come and gone over the years. Skobel’s headquarter in Russia, however, remained. The Republic of the Sphere was happy to give contracts to Skobel during its existence, meaning most of those production lines are fully operational and manned.

BattleMech

Caph

The varying fate of Caph has made Skobel quite confused. As of now, the facilities on Caph are in abeyance. If they are reactivated, they would build components to be used by other facilities first.

New Earth

The New Earth facilities of Skobel have been going up and down through most of its existence, but recent investments by Clan Wolf and Clan Sea Fox has let them reactivate most of them. Importing manpower is the biggest problem they are facing, but the New Star League is happy to wave “Clan way of life” for corporate sponsors, and nationals from the Wolf Empire have moved to New Earth to join Skobel.

BattleMech

Thorin

Skobel’s factories on Thorin generally produce components to be used in other facilities. New BattleMech production facilities have opened with the help of the Republic of the Sphere.

BattleMech

Outreach

Tbe Outreach facilities were destroyed by the Word of Blake. With Clan Smoke Jaguar reclaiming the world and working on “fixing it up”, Skobel has sent investigators to see what is salvageable.

Effective Technology Level

Skobel lost less technology than most during the Succession Wars as ComStar wanted to keep some manufacturing ability for themselves. Most of their factories were mothballed and in abeyance, however. When Com Guard was fully activated, Skobel’s factories were fully reactivated and have remained fully active since. They have access to all advanced material components from the Inner Sphere, including more “dedicated” parts like triple-strength myomer. Their understanding of Clan technology is limited, but with being a company under Clan Wolf, is expected to grow quickly.

Skobel MechWorks has access to the following Clan-graded components:

  • ER Lasers
  • Pulse Lasers
  • Heavy Lasers
  • Factories are being retooled to Clan-graded internals with Clan Sea Fox and Wolf help.
