Irian Technologies was always a major weapons and equipment provider for the Free Worlds League, but with the disappearance of Gibson, they have cemented themselves as the premiere manufacturer in that region of space. The company is powerful enough to be the de-factor government of Irian III, with a seat in the Free Worlds League senate. Highly diversified nowadays. Irian’s main source of income still comes from its military contracts with the various states of the Free Worlds League, along with the Duchy of Andurien.
Recent History
32nd century woes
Irian Technologies in the 32nd century faced a number of issues. The first one was the limitation of their production by the Republic of the Sphere, which controlled Irian itself. Various secondary plants, including the Soapstone Mountain plant on Irian, were shutdown in the name of “disarmament”. The company’s leadership moved to Shiro as the Republic was cracking down on their control of the planet, leaving a skeleton crew of upper management.
In the 3130s, Irian began reclaiming their homeworld as the Republic of the Sphere began falling apart. Having leaked information to the Maskirovka about the Soapstone Mountain facilities, they basically forced out the Republic off-world by making it too expensive to manage.
Retaking control
Irian Technologies retook control, and the upper management of the company moved back to their former headquarters. That leadership team was also key in keeping the local HPG protected and up and running after Gray Monday. Even with the damage done to their facilities during “the dark days” of 3133 and 3135, Irian came out on top. The company originally wanted the planet to remain independent. However, with pressure from the Capellan Confederation, reforming Free Worlds League and newly formed Wolf Empire, the leadership team at Irian decided to side once again with their old patrons.
One of the biggest issue currently facing Irian is the division of their loyalty between two “rival” groups, with the Duchy of Andurien and the Free Worlds League. While there is a corporate trade agreement between the two nations, the Anduriens are pushing for Irian to invest more in their Shiro III plant and move their HQ permanently. On their side, House Marik is courting them to expand their facilities to more world to provide the forces of the various rejoined duchies, baronies and semi-independent nation-states.
Private Security
Irian has increased their investment in security since the early 3130s, originally paying for a retainer with the Dragon’s Fury. As Katana Tormak ran to join the Nova Cat and the losing side of the Combine Civil War, the remaining members of the Fury which were on Irian reformed into “Irian’s Fury”, integrating IrTech Security and the Irian Standing Guard into a single Private Military Contractor.
Manufacturing
Angell II
The facilities on Angell II are the most advanced ones Irian owns. Production of advanced Clan equipment is well underway, with upgrades to existing machines scheduled.
Clipperton
This facility belongs to Irian Naval Systems, a fully owned subsidiary of Irian Technologies.
DropShips
JumpShips
Warships
- Agamemnon-class (production restarted after reintegration in the FWL)
Irian
The main facility of Irian Technologies was slowed down and parts of it put in abeyance under the Republic of the Sphere. Production started ramping back up after it became independent and then rejoined the League.
Battle Armors
BattleMechs
OmniMechs
IndustrialMech
- Inquisitor (Inquisitor BattleMech production began)
Shiro III
The Irian facilities on Shiro III are at the center of the Duchy of Andurien’s BattleMech production capabilities. As they are part of the “Irian Family”, they share the technology and trade capabilities of the main company. There are surprisingly little trade restrictions between the League and the Duchy.
Tongatapu
The facilities on Washburn had been appropriated by Clan Wolf and the Wolf Empire before it was liberated by Free Worlds League forces. The facility had been used to produce spare parts and equipment for the Wolf touman, but no noticeable “upgrades” were left behind.
Washburn
This facility is under control of Clan Wolf, and has not been producing equipment for Irian Technologies since the conquest.
Effective Technology Level
Irian is one of the most advanced companies in the Inner Sphere in terms of production capabilities. Any Inner Sphere technology can be built and copied by Irian and its subsidiaries with little issues. Even “lost technology” like many Blakist equipment is available to the Irian factories, even though they are not building them at the moment.
On the Clan technology front, however, Irian is quite limited and relies more on imports from other companies. Their most advanced facility is at Angel II, which produces a limited number of Clan-graded components mostly for local consumption. The technology from that factory is being replicated in other factories now, meaning that these more advanced components will be available at other locations soon. Irian is concentrating on expanding their Clan Endo-steel mills first.
Clan-graded equipment built by Irian Technologies includes:
- SRM and Streak SRM
- ER and Pulse Lasers
- Hardened Armor
- ER PPC (for Guillotine IIC) – Production is limited
- Endo-Steel (for Guillotine IIC) – Production is limited
