Coventry Metal Works

The second largest weapons manufacturer in the Lyran Commonwealth, and the personal fief of the Grantrel family, Coventry Metal Works has been more popular recently after the whole Vedet Brewer incident. Coventry works on multiple popular BattleMechs for the LCAF, starting with the ubiquitous Commando and the very popular Firestarter, both standard Omni variant. The owners, the Grantrel family, has been cozying up to the Archon in recent years, potentially placing themselves in the running as Archon-Consort.

Recent History

With the Duke of Hesperus and CEO of Defiance Industries having attempted to coup the Steiner family, Defiance has been on a downturn in terms of military contracts. Coventry was more than happy to pick up the slack while putting their full industrial and commercial weight behind Trillian Steiner, but especially her cousin Roderick Steiner. While they do not have much “space” on Coventry to expand their operations, the Grantrel’s have been looking to purchase and install new factories on “protected worlds” deeper in the Lyran Commonwealth.

Coventry Metal Works also keeps close ties with Luthien Armor Works and Technicron, both to license their designs but also to purchase some of their technology and equipment to expand their own. Seeing that Defiance and other manufacturers have expanded into Clan technology, Coventry feels like they are behind on this and have invested in this heavily since the release of the Regent OmniMech, which they developed with Clan Sea Fox.

Refit Facility

Coventry’s secondary facility on the planet is a massive refit and repair yard, the equivalent of another large production facility. While generally dedicated to the LCAF, about 20% of the refit yard is reserved for paying customers, generally mercenaries. Coventry Refit Facility specializes in “advanced upgrades”, including installing (but not manufacturing) Clan-graded technology. All other materials can easily be bought from Coventry Metal Works, which will install them on ‘mechs as needed by their client.

Effective Technology Level

Coventry Metal Works operates some of the most advanced Inner Sphere production facilities but have extremely limited access to Clan technology. The company has spent more time expanding their footprint then trying to improve their internal technology base, even though they have gotten some specifications for devices from Technicron and other Free Worlds League manufacturers through a deal with Clan Sea Fox’s ilKhanate.
