Hema Grimani

“Beware of an old man in a profession where men usually die young.”

Hema Grimani is the anti-thesis of everything about the Clan culture. An old MechWarrior, he was the first to jump on the occasion to train new recruits and serve in reserve ranks. In that position, he beats responsibility, military discipline and common sense into his recruits rather than blind devotion to the touman. While he had a bad reputation before, after the ascension of Khan Hartford Zalman, Star Colonel Hema Grimani became the head instructor of the Clan and setup the curriculum going forward. His current role in the Clan is also to give Trial of Positions to front-line warriors.

Early Career

Hema Steel Viper was born in exile, soon after the defeat of Clan Steel Viper. A general attitude of defeatism was omnipresent in his sibko, which affected the mental wellbeing of most of the students. He found solace in old military philosophy books and practical technical guides, which he shared with other trainees. He completed his Blooding with the rank of Star Commander, defeating two other trainees who had basically already given up on their training.

With no clear local enemies, Clan Steel Viper still reformed and rebuilt their military according to Clan standard but could not properly give their soldiers experience. Hema Grimani began training routines and rotations within his cluster to get soldiers into an acceptable state of readiness. As he climbed in ranks to Star Captain, he began doing operations between the Steel Vipers, Blood Spirits and Fire Mandrill, all as a mean to attain basic operational readiness. He was awarded a chance to earn his bloodname, along with the rank of Star Colonel, after these operations were completed.

As a Handler

Star Colonel Grimani transferred to the training and garrison cluster taking care of the largest sibko in the Clan after winning his bloodname. He quickly got a reputation for being strict, but fair. Hema also was known for teaching Blood Spirit texts to his recruits to improve their esprit de corp. He put in place the bioroid Trials of Positions and blooding used by Clan Steel Viper, where a warrior has to face one team of Bioroid commanded units.

While Hema Grimani’s edge has gone done over the years, he is still regarded as one of the most skilled MechWarrior in the Clan. He is well known for favoring LB-X autocannons and long-range missiles in many of his fights and has an uncanny ability to make every shot that hits count.

Cybernetics and Enhancements

Star Colonel Grimani took Enhanced Imaging implants when he was 40 years old, letting a Society scientist experiment with advanced imaging techniques. The implant was then regarded as a basis for a more refined version of the Bioroid Command implant, which Hema Grimani also tested out. His main motivation was that he would not want any of his recruits to use technology that is untested and that he wouldn’t be using himself.

The Star Colonel also lost part of his pelvis to an accident during a live fire exercise, with his left leg and pelvis being replaced with artificial bones and myomer. This injury would normally have ended his career, but the more advanced interface cockpits allow him to pilot even with limited mobility in the lower limbs.

Hema Grimani’s BattleMech

Star Colonel Hema Grimani pilots a Bioroid-command version of the Turkina assault omnimech. He favors the prime configuration over all else.
