II Legio

II Legion (2^nd Legion) is a heavy cavalry unit part of the MHAF. Like most legions, they are often just depicted as “little better than pirates” by the Inner Sphere. II Legio does have a reputation for their powerful strikes and breaking enemy formations, along with a strong dedication to the Caesar and the state. Caesar Ignatius O’Reilly has been investing large amounts of capital into II Legio, allowing them to be fully equipped with some of the most modern weapons in the Marian Hegemony.

Recent history

The II Legio deployed mainly in the former Illyrian Palatinate. From their headquarters on Illyria, they directed traffic within the area and helped keep the peace. Working closely with the Alphard Trading Corporation, they received constant supplies and upgraded their infantry force to mainly use modern Battle Armors.

During the late 3140s, the II and III Legio performed multiple raids against the Free Worlds League, capturing Gilbraltar. This victory was short lived as elements from Camacho’s Caballeros and the Tamarind Regulars counter-attacked with more vigor than expected. This rivalry against the Tamarind Regulars and associated mercenaries would be ongoing from that point on.

War of Marian Aggression

After the murder of Caear O’Reilly’s wife, the various Legio moved against the Free Worlds League. This “War of Marian Aggression” was orchestrated by foreign assets, but blamed Fontaine Marik for the murder. The II Legio fought against the Tamarind Regulars for most of this conflict, both sides chasing each other across various worlds. The defense of Illyria by the 2nd Legion against the 7^th Tamarind Regular and Camacho’s Caballeros was viewed as a major victory for the Marian Hegemony.

Tactics

The II Legio is specialized in heavy cavalry tactics. They use overwhelming force to break through enemy formations and force them to retreat. Having been fully equipped with Battle Armors for their infantry, troop transport has become very important to them. The 2nd Legion has been petitioning to get access to OmniMechs if possible.

Unit colors

The II Legio generally paints their ‘Mechs with white or light gray, with blue highlights. The trim is painted using a coppery or gold color (for officers). “Plumes” are sometimes attached to the ‘Mechs.
