I Legio

The I Legio (First Legion) is the command unit of the Marian Hegemony Armed Forces. They are also composed of the most fanatical and dedicated warriors of all the legions. Over the years, they have adopted the old Roman Praetorian Guard aesthetic and mentality. To make sure that they remain loyal to the Caesar, they are the best paid soldiers in the Hegemony as well.

Recent history

The I Legio served mainly as a defensive unit on Alphard, with the various cohors rotating service as palace guard, military garrison to the key elements on the planet and serving in anti-piracy roles. The I Legio has been popular with the locals, the soldier’s personal wealth often being used to prop up small, wealthy enclaves within the cities. Due to their lack of active service, many believe the I Legio is underexperienced compared to other units.

During the War of Marian Aggression, the Praetorian Guards were dispatched as the command unit of the incursion forces. While the Third Legion was the most active on the front, the First served to protect advances and secure conquered territories. During that period, they mainly fought mercenaries paid by the Free Worlds League Military and Fontaine Marik.

Tactics

The First Legion is trained in defensive tactics, especially the protection of VIPs. Their tactical doctrine generally teaches them to setup ambushes using their lighter ‘Mechs to set a trap setup by entrenched combined arms assets.

I Legio unit colors

I Legio machines are generally painted in midnight blue, with dark gray highlights and a red and white time. Both the unit logo and the Marian banner are proudly displayed on their units.
