Vandenberg Mechanized Industries is amongst the largest military equipment manufacturer in the Taurian Concordat, and in the Rim ward periphery. It was founded from the merger of seven smaller manufacturer destroyed or damaged during the War of Star League Aggression. A lynchpin in the military production of the Taurian Concordat, it also is a major exporter of equipment to the Aurigan Trade Alliance, Clan Sea Fox, Calderon Protectorate and Fronc Reaches.

History

The company operated in secret until the Amaris Civil War, where it began operating in the open. While the Taurians had a hatred for the Star League Defense Force, Vandenberg Mechanized Industries provided General Kerensky with war materiel against promises payments and technological compensations.

During the Succession Wars era, VMI ramped up production to protect the Taurian state, while also exporting materiel to unaffiliated worlds, Outworld Alliance and Magistracy of Canopus. They were viewed as “least threat” by the successor states, and their facilities were ignored by some of the widespread destruction of the First and Second Succession War.

Recovery of the Star League memory cores by the end of the Fourth Succession War and onwards advanced Vandenberg’s military technology slowly. They first had access to limited information on the Helm Memory Core, partially due to technological espionage in NAIS. The major technological boon, however, came from the New Dallas Memory Core. Since the Jihad, investments in VMI were kept high.

In recent years, the Aurigan Trade Alliance and Clan Sea Fox have struck multiple agreements with VMI. Flanagan’s Repair and Refits has been providing them with Clan-grade ferro-fibrous armor, along with some advanced weapons to equip newer machines meant for export. VMI is negotiating to install a new facility in Aurigan-controlled territory.

Production plants

Vandenberg Mechanized Industries has 3 major plants. Their main plant is on New Vandenberg and produces both full military kit and large numbers of spare parts for other designs. The Illiushin plant was originally hidden, and a portion of it is still built underground in bunkers, protecting it from orbital view (or bombardment). The facility on Pinard is the smallest of the three, but produces some of the heaviest BattleMechs of the company.
