The Canopian Institute of War is the premier military academy in the Magistracy of Canopus. It is often regarded as the best military academy in the Periphery. It models itself after the prestigious Combine Sun Zhang MechWarrior Academy. Recently commissioned in 3058, the CIW allowed the Magistracy Armed Forces to improve on their general leadership and command structure.
Curriculum
The CIW is a refinement academy, taking some of the very best graduate from local training facilities and international students. Unlike many Magistracy military institute, one cannot normally just “buy their way in” the CIW. Placement tests and entrance exams are far more stringent than many other military academies. However, this can still be waived for the right individuals with enough money or prestige.
The training at the Canopian Institute of War begins with a six-month intense military survival and basic training exercise. As an “institute of higher learning”, this is done to iron out the kinks and issues from the trainees original training. Once this training is completed, the students are then transferred to an advanced program where they learn the ins and outs of their selected military profile.
Graduates
Graduates are allowed to display the school color (gold, silver and lavender) on their unit’s uniform, and are provided a half-cape they can wear with their dress uniform. While many foreign students try to do this, most local powers only humor the graduates after their return. The three main units which recruits from this academy are the Magistracy Royal Guards, the Chasseurs a Cheval and the Canopian Fusiliers.
Mercenary life
In recent years, Canopian Institute of War graduates have filtered out to various mercenary units throughout the Inner Sphere. The Magistracy sees this as a sign of the quality of their training. This also allows several graduates to develop a better understanding of front-line combat before returning to the Magistracy.
However, this is only part of the story. The Wolverine Union, especially the Rim Worlds Republic, has invested a lot in the Canopian Institute of War since the early 32nd century. The Institute has been used to train assets for the Republic, which they infiltrate into mercenary outfits throughout the Inner Sphere for information gathering and destabilization.
Unit color
Machines serving in training for the Canopian Institute of War are painted in lavender color, with silver and gold highlights. Instructors also have red added to their paint scheme.
