Overview:

The Maganac began its life as a basic redesign of the Vindicator the moment House Liao faced the Operation Zeta “Leo” from former Fidelis forces. Using an existing chassis and equipment, tied to an engine that was already available, the Maganac made the front lines of the Capellan – Star League War in record time.

With the number of “defective” Vindicators 7L (see the Jaded Mandarin Controversy, where Vindicator 7L were fitted with Industrial Mech chassis instead of a reinforced chassis) reaching the front, Ceres needed a quick win to deflect the wrath of the Chancellor. Adapting the more modular approach to design from the Leo to the Vindicator had been easy as they managed to poach a few Operation Zeta engineers as they fled the Republic of the Sphere.

Focusing on being somewhat survivable rather than being at the peak of efficiency, minimal Clan technology is used in the design outside of its cooling system and the pilot-interface module, which was “strongly inspired” from the Ion Sparrow‘s HOTAS setup.

Capabilities:

Simply designed, the Maganac focuses heavily on “arm carried” weapons while keeping an “electronic warfare” module in its torso to be used as either an ECM or Active Probe. This housing can be swapped in about 30 minutes by a team of technicians. Outside of this, the other hard-mounted equipment on the machine is a pair of 7.7mm machine guns in each side torso, fed by a half-ton of CASE protected ammo. This CASE system also protects ammunition for most hand-held weapons.

With the current issues Ceres was experiencing with the Vindicator 7L, the skeleton of the Maganac is a very basic, bare bones Vindicator body with a pair of hands, made with easy to source equipment. For protection, it was decided that Laser Reflective compound would be used. 9 and a half tons provided ample protection against Clan Wolf laser weaponry.

The engine is a Light 225 which was intended to be used in future “Snake”-series Vindicators, giving the Maganac a top speed of 86kmph, with 5 jump jets letting it move 150 meters in the air.

Deployment:

The Maganac was thrown into the thick of it during the Capellan – Star League war. With most technicians not understanding how the modular weapon system worked, most of them were equipped “as is”. Ceres had to send their own engineers to the front to explain how the design work. Unfortunately for House Liao, this also led to a few of them defecting to Clan Wolf, bringing their technological know-how back to the Clans.

The Maganac also faced Rimward Alliance force to protect the rim ward Liao border against forceful expansion. The Maganac made enough of an impression that the Rimward Alliance attempted to negotiate the purchase of the design after the war.

Variants:

Here is a number of “standard setup” seen with the Maganac:

Plasma Rifle: The first design out of the gate, this one packs a Ceres Arms Crusher Plasma Rifle in the gun mount, while the opposite arm carries a Small Shield on the shoulder and a Sword.

RAC/2: A fire support option, this model carries a Rotary AC/2 along with a sword on the other arm. 2 magazines of round are carried for the AC/2.

TSEMP: This model features both EWAR modules being installed, along with a larger hatchet being carried instead of the sword. The main weapon is a TSEMP weapon.

Large RE Laser: This large sniper rifle-like gun mount is equipped with a Re-Engineered laser to defeat the advanced ferro-lamellor which is used by Clan Wolf, along with laser reflective armor in use by everyone.

MM-7 and 9: A large, hand-held but shoulder mounted missile pod can be accommodated with either a MML-7 or MML-9, with the equipment on the opposite arm being altered depending on how many reloads of ammo are wanted to be carried. A typical setup is an MM-7. a hatchet and a shield, along with 3 tons of missile reloads. A common setup with the MML-9 is to eschew the sword and carry 4 full tons of MML reloads.

RAC/5: This option, generally coupled with a small shield and nothing else, mounts a large gatling-gun mount for a Rotary AC/5.

Maganac TSM: This version of the Maganac replaces the Laser Reflective Armor with standard plates, but adds Triple Strength Myomer.

Additional:

The Maganac Corp is a batallion of Liao MechWarriors specialized in the use of the Maganac, along with the Vindicators and Snakes. Sharing a majority of their parts, the Corp technicians have a very short logistics chain and highly efficient repair parts. Modernization on the Vindicator and Snake designs based off the modularity of the Maganac are being discussed at Ceres to better equip the Maganac Corp.
