Overview:

The Omni Firestarter has been a standard omnimech in production by all Inner Sphere states in a strange form of cooperation. The Clan Protectorate and Clan Spirit Cats were looking for a design to supplement their touman, and Trellshire Heavy Industries on Marik proposed a new version of the 45 ton Omni Firestarter.

While most of the machine was just a copy of the original machine, using Clan-grade parts improved the already popular design significantly. Renamed ‘Spirit Cat’ by Star Colonel Rikkard, it fit the needs of Clan Protectorate. Once the Spirit Cats reformed as the Nova Cats, the Spirit Cat became popular with Wolf Empire forces as well. Clan Sea Fox successfully fought a Trial for the design, but rather than taking the design, they began purchasing it from Trellshire Heavy Industries while providing them with resources.

Capabilities:

Laser Reflective armor was selected for this new version Firestarter, with 9 tons protecting an endo-steel chassis made of Clan-grade Endo-steel. A GM 270 XL engine powers the design up to speeds of 97kmph. The largest change was the cockpit module, which was taken from a Phoenix Hawk to allow the Spirit Cat to be a superior scout commander, which was one request bade by Star Colonel Rikkard. Unlike the original Firestarter Omni, this machine has no ‘built-in’ parts outside of the core chassis and body components. Overall, this leaves 20 tons for pod space on the design.

Deployment:

The Spirit Cat (Firestarter IIC) was commissioned right before the Battle of Terra and was tested in a few trials by the Spirit Cats before being mobilized to defend the Wolf Empire. Roderick Steiner’s force originally believed he was faced with standard Inner Sphere Firestarter O equipped with Clan weapons at
first, before understanding that this was a brand new design.The Lyran High Command quickly requested a few were to be captured so Defiance could replicate the design.

Star Colonel Rikkard Nova Cat made it a priority, in response, to recover any lost Spirit Cat. While a few were lost, the Lyran high command has not been able to copy the design as they were too heavily damaged.

Variants:

The Prime configuration is a true incendiary machine, carrying a pair of Plasma Cannon and an ER Flamer in each side torsos. For more armored targets, each arm also carries a Medium Pulse Laser. For increased mobility, 6 Jump Jets allow for 180 meters of jump range.

The Alpha configuration is more aggressive, carrying an Liao-copied Plasma Rifle with 2 tons of shooting foam, while each torso carries a Medium Pulse Laser. Once things get into melee range, the Alpha configuration also carries a Hatchet. Again, Jump Jets allow for 180 meters.

The Bravo configuration relies on a pair of 6-tubes SRM, each fed by 2 tons of CASE II protected ammo, to set things on fire. At closer range, each side torsos can also use ER Flamers to burn things down. An ER Large Laser in the center torso is inspired by the Griffin IIC.

Configuration Charlie is meant to be used as a siege breaker, which is extremely unusual but shows how restricted the Nova Cats were in terms of BattleMech availability. The right arm mounts a mammoth 160mm ultra 20-class autocannon, with 2 medium pulse lasers on the opposite arm. An AP gauss rifle
can be used to take out infantry. This variant does not use jump jets.

Configuration Delta is equipped with Battlemech Talons and 6 torso-mounted jump jets. Each arm mounts a Plasma Cannon and an ER Medium Laser, while each torso has an AP Gauss Rifle each.

Khan Rikkard Rwabdogo of the reborn Nova Cats pilots a Spirit Cat, surprisingly
for a man of his stature. He does seem to favor configuration Alpha.
